The impersonators evade the problem of their inauthenticity using various cunning methods:
- Name: Sometimes the name used by these fabricated groups is similar to or even the very same as The LCC's name;
- Liberal Catholic "Movement": Some groups proclaim that they are part of "the Liberal Catholic movement," but there is no "Liberal Catholic movement." That is a new term the pretenders invented as a cover for their groups to evade the problem of their inauthenticity;
- False web sites: Some imitation groups even proclaim in their web sites that they are The Liberal Catholic Church and then link to the web sites of authentic TLCC churches, falsely claiming authority over these legitimate TLCC Churches; another common trick of these false sites is to link to photographs of church activities at real TLCC Churches, and then claim that these legitimate activities are actually happening in the simulated LCC churches. A suggestion: at a web site, always check to see if there are photographs of a church building and congregation. Most pretenders have more clergy than congregation, if they have a congregation at all.
- Rewriting the History of The LCC: one particular self-styled "Liberal Catholic Bishop" in the United States has, at his web site, completely falsified the history of The LCC to pretend that he represents the authentic TLCC;
- Theft of Forms and Liturgy: all the false groups use either identical or slightly modified forms and Liturgy of the original and authentic TLCC, in an effort to pretend that they are part of the genuine Liberal Catholic Church.
- False Publications: one enterprising imitation LCC Bishop in the United States is using the name of TLCC's actual publishing house, The St. Alban Press, and has been busy republishing public domain works about the authentic TLCC under his "St. Alban Press" name. This self-styled "Liberal Catholic bishop" alters the publications to present The Liberal Catholic Church as a "movement." In fact, the authentic St. Alban Press is located in three major world cities: Edinburgh, Scotland; Sydney, Australia; and Ojai, California U.S.A.
